I have heard that every one of us has a special music running deep inside our soul and whatever music we love in our lives has something in common with it. I always translate English lyrics into Japanese, wondering what my music sounds like.
(Dance With Me Tonight)」
In Case You Didn't Knowに収録されている曲ですが,70年代初期のファンク・ポップな感じで,個人的に気に入っています。
The title is so straightforward. What the protagonist in the lyrics is trying to say is, "Dance With Me Tonight."
This is the second single from Olly Murs' sophomore album In Case You Didn't Know. It sounds like he's returning to an early '70s Funk-Pop sound and I love it.
In the lyrics video below appears Niall Horan of One Direction. When I heard it from my sister, I was bit surprised but soon convinced. Probably that's because they're both contestants of The X Factor. Dance With Me Tonight (Olly Murs)
(Lyrics video)
Ladies and Gentlemen we’ve got a special treat for tonight
I’m gonna call my friend Olly up here to sing to you ladies
Olly!
Let’s go man
My name is Olly nice to meet you can I tell you baby
Look around there’s a whole lot of pretty ladies
But none like you, you shine so bright, yeah
I was wondering if you and me could spend a minute
On the floor up and close getting lost in it
I won’t give up without a fight
I just wanna, oh baby
I just want you to dance with me tonight
So come on, oh baby
I just want you to dance with me tonight
We’re getting sweaty, hot and heavy in the crowd now
Loosen up and let you hands go down, down
Go with it girl, yeah just close your eyes, yeah
I feel the music moving through your body
Looking at you I can tell you want me
Don’t stop keep going till the morning light, yeah
When I saw you there, sitting all alone in the dark acting like you didn’t have a care
I knew right then, that you’d be mine, and we’d be dancing the whole damn night right
Oh baby, I just want you to dance with me tonight
So come on, oh baby
I just want you to dance with me tonight
Break it down now,
(yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Shake it like that,
(yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Now bring it all back
To dance with me tonight
One more time, one more time, come on now
(yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Do your thing,
(yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah)
Everybody sing
(I just want you to dance with me tonight)
I just wanna, oh baby
I just want you to dance with me tonight
Everybody everybody come on now
Girl, just close your eyes
We can dance all through the night,
I just want you to dance with me tonight
And everybody sing
Girl just close your eyes, we can dance all through the night
I just want you to dance with me tonight
So come on girl just close your eyes
We can dance all through the night
I just want you to dance with me tonight
Sometimes (I say not always) a person like me gets a bit annoyed by those who are in the state of euphoria, especially romantically. Please tell me what else I can say to such happy people but "Whatever."
This love ballad finds Avril duetting with her husband, Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. She said that the music is what brought the two of them together and resulted in their love affair. "Working with Chad was awesome because I found a husband and that was the best thing that came out of the experience." ... Whatever Let Me Go (Avril Lavigne)
[Avril Lavigne]
Love that once hung on the wall
Used to mean something, but now it means nothing
The echoes are gone in the hall
But I still remember, the pain of December
Oh, there isn't one thing left you could say
I'm sorry it's too late
[Chorus]
I'm breaking free from these memories
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I've said goodbye
Set it all on fire
Gotta let it go, just let it go
[Chad Kroeger]
You came back to find I was gone
And that place is empty,
Like the hole that was left in me
Like we were nothing at all
It's not what you meant to me
Thought we were meant to be
Oh, there isn't one thing left you could say
I'm sorry it's too late
[Chorus]
I'm breaking free from these memories
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I've said goodbye
Set it all on fire
Gotta let it go, just let it go
I let it go and now I know
A brand new life is down this road
And when it's right, you always know
So this time I won't let go
There's only one thing left here to say
Love's never too late
[Chorus]
I've broken free from those memories
I've let it go, I've let it go
And two goodbyes led to this new life
Don't let me go, don't let me go
Don't let me go, don't let me go, don't let me go
Won't let you go, don't let me go
Won't let you go, don't let me go
(5 Michael Buble Covers That Genuinely Improved On The Originals)」という記事を読んだからです。 Crazy Love (Van Morrison),Cry Me A River (Julie London),Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Queen)そしてIt's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas (Meredith Wilson)の4曲です。
This song originally sung by Paul Francis Webster and Robert “Bob” Harris was featured in a film, Spiderman 2 in 2004. I came to know it reading an article titled, 5 Michael Buble Covers That Genuinely Improved On The Originals. 4 others included Crazy Love (Van Morrison), Cry Me A River (Julie London), Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Queen) and It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas (Meredith Wilson).
Spider Man (Michael Buble)
Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size.
Catches thieves- just like flies.
Look out! Here comes the Spiderman.
Is he strong? Listen, bud.
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing, from a thread?
Take a look overhead.
Hey, there! There goes the Spiderman!
In the chill of night, at the scene of a crime,
like a streak of light,
he arrives, just in time!
Spiderman, Spiderman,
friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
Wealth and fame? He's ignored.
Action is his reward.
Look out! There goes the Spiderman!
Spiderman, Spiderman,
friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
Wealth and fame? He's ignored
(He's Ignored)
Action is his reward.
Look out! (LOOK OUT!)
Here comes the Spiderman!
In the chill of night, at the scene of a crime,
like a streak of light,
he arrives, just in time!
Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can.
Spins a web, any size.
Catches thieves- just like flies.
Look out! Here comes the Spiderman.
Spiderman, Spiderman,
friendly neighborhood Spiderman.
Wealth and fame? He's ignored.
Action is his reward.
Look out!
Here comes the Spiderman!!!!!!!!
What is this song about? Yes, it's about unconditional love but between who? Taking a look at the lyrics, you may think it's a romantic love song. Watching the lyrics video below, I thought it's about mother's love because they seemed to be a mother and a son.
As for the song, Katy Perry herself said, "I think it's a universal love song that everyone's going to be able to relate to no matter the age, no matter male or female. It's my favorite song off the record."
Anyway, I first watched the video, I thought one of two people in the video was male. I was wrong. Both of them are female. The one with the long hair is Janell Shirtcliff and the other with the short hair is Erika Linder who is well known for her androgynous style. Unconditionally (Katy Perry)
Oh no, did I get too close?
Oh, did I almost see what's really on the inside?
All your insecurities
All the dirty laundry
Never made me blink one time
Unconditional, unconditionally
I will love you unconditionally
There is no fear now
Let go and just be free
I will love you unconditionally
Come just as you are to me
Don't need apologies
Know that you are worthy
I'll take your bad days with your good
Walk through the storm I would
I do it all because I love you, I love you
Unconditional, unconditionally
I will love you unconditionally
There is no fear now
Let go and just be free
I will love you unconditionally
So open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart
Acceptance is the key to be
To be truly free
Will you do the same for me?
Unconditional, unconditionally
I will love you unconditionally
And there is no fear now
Let go and just be free
'Cause I will love you unconditionally (oh yeah)
I will love you (unconditionally)
I will love you
I will love you unconditionally
I will love you unconditionallyの意味は「(こうしてくれたら愛する,逆にああしたら愛さないなどという条件をつけずに)何があっても相手のことを愛する」ということですが,これは普通の人間にはかなり難しく,強いて言うならそれに一番近いものが前述の母の愛ではないかと思います。
Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)を提供しているのですが,確かに同じ匂いを感じます。 http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2011/12/single-ladies-beyonce.html
This won the award for Best Traditional R&B Performance at the 2013 Grammy Awards. The song has been staying on Metrolyrics Top 100 lyrics list for a long time, probably more than a year.
The song was penned by The-Dream whose previous contributions for Beyoncé include her "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" which I posted before. I can recognize something in common between them. http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2011/12/single-ladies-beyonce.html
Since it's such a feel-good song, I put "W" label on it thinking it would make a perfect wedding song. Love On Top (Beyoncé Knowles)
Bring the beat in!
Honey, honey
I can see the stars all the way from here
Can't you see the glow on the window pane?
I can feel the sun whenever you're near
Every time you touch me I just melt away
Now everybody asks me why I'm smiling out from ear to ear (They say love hurts)
But I know (It's gonna take a little work)
Nothing's perfect, but it's worth it after fighting through my tears
And finally you put me first
Baby it's you.
You're the one I love.
You're the one I need.
You're the only one I see.
Come on baby it's you.
You're the one that gives your all.
You're the one I can always call.
When I need you make everything stop.
Finally you put my love on top.
Ooh! Come on baby.
You put my love on top, top, top, top, top.
You put my love on top.
Ooh oooh! Come on baby.
You put my love on top, top, top, top, top.
My love on top.
My love on top.
Baby, Baby
I can hear the wind whipping past my face.
As we dance the night away.
Boy your lips taste like a night of champagne.
As I kiss you again, and again, and again and again.
Now everybody asks me why I'm smiling out from ear to ear (They say love hurts)
But I know (It's gonna take a little work)
Nothing's perfect, but it's worth it after fighting through my tears.
And finally you put me first.
Baby it's you.
You're the one I love.
You're the one I need.
You're the only one I see.
Come on baby it's you.
You're the one that gives your all.
You're the one I can always call.
When I need you make everything stop.
Finally you put my love on top.
Oh! Baby.
You put my love on top, top, top, top, top.
You put my love on top.
Oh Oh! Come on baby.
You put my love on top, top, top, top, top.
My love on top.
Baby it's you.
You're the one I love.
You're the one I need.
You're the only thing I see.
Come on baby it's you.
You're the one that gives your all.
You're the one I can always call.
When I need you baby everything stops.
Finally you put my love on top.
Baby, you're the one I love.
Baby, you're all I need.
You're the only one I see.
Come on baby it's you.
You're the one that gives your all.
You're the one I can always call.
When I need you everything stops.
Finally you put my love on top
Baby.
'Cause you're the one that I love.
Baby you're the one that I need.
You're the only man I see.
Baby baby it's you.
You're the one that gives your all.
You're the one I always call.
When I need you everything stops.
Finally you put my love on top
Baby.
'Cause you're the one that I love.
Baby you're the one that I need.
You're the only one I see.
Baby, baby, it's you.
You're the one that gives your all.
You're the one I always call.
When I need you everything stops.
Finally you put my love on top
http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2013/05/dear-darlin-olly-murs.html
We usually call a set of musical recordings stored together in jackets under one binding a studio album or just simply an album. That's probably the analogy to a photo album.
Suppose that like pictures in an album, songs are arranged chronologically in this studio album, Olly Murs' Right Place Right Time. This eponymous song comes right after Dear Darling I posted the other day. http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2013/05/dear-darlin-olly-murs.html
Does it mean that the protagonist let the second person go and moved on? Right Place Right Time (Olly Murs)
We got our eyes wide open, feeling like we are almost there.
Words unspoken disappearing in the air
All I see is you and I
You're the only lifeline that I need tonight
I'm letting go.
So this is what it feels like
Being at the right place the right time
I'm hanging on for dear life
Hoping we can make this a long night
This is why we came yeah
I can feel it in my veins
So this is what it feels like
Right place the right time
Loud explosions only you and I can hear
Doors fly open, you're the cure for all my fears
All I see is you and I
You're the only lifeline that I need tonight
I'm letting go.
So this is what it feels like
Being at the right place the right time
I'm hanging on for dear life
Hoping we can make this a long night
This is why we came yeah
I can feel it in my veins
So this is what it feels like
Right place the right time with you
Right place the right time with you
Right place the right time
Right here and now feels like forever
Never touch the ground when we're together
Right here and now feels like forever, forever, forever, forever, forever
So this is what it feels like
Being at the right place the right time
I'm hanging on for dear life
Hoping we can make this a long night.
(Oh)
Right place the right time
(Oh)
Right place the right time
(Oh)
Right here and now feels like forever (right place, the right time)
Never touch the ground when we are together
Right here and now feels like forever
Right place the right time.
I guess everybody has one or two dirty little secrets but our dirty little secret isn't always that dirty. I know a guy who doesn't take a shower for a week. I know it's not very appealing to girls but it's not 'dirty' in that sense either. He IS a bit dirty, or smelly, though. Dirty Little Secret (The All American Rejects)
Let me know that I've done wrong
When I've known this all along
I go around a time or two
Just to waste my time with you
Tell me all that you've thrown away
Find out games you don't wanna play
You are the only one that needs to know
I'll keep you my dirty little secret
(Dirty little secret)
Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret
(Just another regret, hope that you can keep it)
My dirty little secret
Who has to know
When we live such fragile lives
It's the best way we survive
I go around a time or two
Just to waste my time with you
Tell me all that you've thrown away
Find out games you don't wanna play
You are the only one that needs to know
I'll keep you my dirty little secret
(Dirty little secret)
Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret
(Just another regret, hope that you can keep it)
My dirty little secret
Who has to know
The way she feels inside (inside)
Those thoughts I can't deny (deny)
These sleeping thoughts won't lie (won't lie)
And all I've tried to hide
It's eating me apart
Trace this life out
I'll keep you my dirty little secret
(Dirty little secret)
Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret
(Just another regret)
I'll keep you my dirty little secret
(Dirty little secret)
Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret
(Just another regret, hope that you can keep it)
My dirty little secret
Dirty little secret
Dirty little secret
Before someone asked me if I hated Justin Bieber. Although I'm not a big fan of him, actually I don't. Specifically, I've hardly known any of his songs except for the best known one which I happened to know through AFN in 2009. Well, putting it in a plain language, I've not been very interested in him since then. Considering that I've already posted 13 songs by One Direction who I'm not a big fan of either, he should deserve at least one post. At least I find this song isn't bad.
Heartbreaker (Justin Bieber)
Girl you don’t know how I feel (how I really feel)
Since you’ve been away, oh baby
Any chance that you could take my call (take my call)
If I called you today, oh?
Girl you say that you don’t wanna talk but it’s cool
I’ve been thinking 'bout you all day long
Hoping you’ll pick up your phone
Girl I know that I don’t wanna lose your love
Oh baby (oh baby), oh baby
Oh girl I got a secret place that we can go
'Cause I really wanna be alone
Baby nobody else gotta know
Just meet me later on the low
Don’t tell me you're my heartbreaker
'Cause girl my heart's breaking
Don’t tell me you're my heartbreaker
'Cause girl my heart's breaking
(Hey girl)
Girl you see me standing here (standing here)
Standing in the rain
Oh, baby
Any chance that you could stay right here?
And never go away?
Girl you say that you don’t wanna talk but it’s cool
I’ve been thinking 'bout you all day long
Hoping you’ll pick up your phone
Girl I know that I don’t wanna lose your love
Oh baby (oh baby), oh baby
Oh girl I got a secret place that we can go (secret place that we can go)
'Cause I really wanna be alone (I really wanna be alone)
And baby nobody else gotta know (nobody else)
Just meet me later on the low (would you meet me on the low girl)
Don’t tell me you're my heartbreaker (baby don't tell me, no)
Girl my heart's breaking
Don’t tell me you're my heartbreaker
'Cause girl my heart's breaking (heart is breaking, woah)
So what I’m really tryna say is
And what I hope you understand
Is despite of all the imperfections of who I am
I still wanna be your man
I know it hasn’t been easy for us to talk with everyone being around
But this is personal, this is for me and you
And I want you to know that I still love you
I know the seasons may change
But sometimes love goes from sunshine to rain
And I’m under this umbrella and I’m calling your name
And you know I don’t wanna lose that
I still believe in us
I still believe in love
I still believe in us
I hope you believe in us
The way I believe in us
You don’t see
'Cause what you don’t see is when we don’t speak I really don’t sleep I wanna talk to ya
And if I had the world in my hands I’d give it all to ya
I wanna know if you’re feeling the way that I’m feeling
I wanna know if you’re feeling the way that I, the way that I
You told me to be careful with your heart, your heart
You told me to be careful with your heart, your heart
With your heart
Glee Season 5
An episode of Glee Season 5 brought me to this song. I heard a cover sung in the episode first. It sounded much more folk-country ballad. I was a bit surprised to find the original sounded much more rock and uplifting.
They say that Springsteen wrote this about the inspirational power of Rock music. It came to represent his friendship with members of his band. I'm sure that's the reason it's featured in the episode.
Part of the chorus provided the title for Jean-Claude Van Damme's first movie, No Retreat, No Surrender. The original title was "Brothers Under The Bridges." No Surrender (Bruce Springsteen)
We busted out of class had to get away from those fools
We learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school
Tonight I hear the neighborhood drummer sound
I can feel my heart begin to pound
You say you're tired and you just want to close your eyes and follow your dreams down
We made a promise we swore we'd always remember
No retreat no surrender
Like soldiers in the winter's night with a vow to defend
No retreat no surrender
Now young faces grow sad and old and hearts of fire grow cold
We swore blood brothers against the wind
I'm ready to grow young again
And hear your sister's voice calling us home across the open yards
Well maybe we could cut someplace of our own
With these drums and these guitars
Blood brothers in the stormy night with a vow to defend
No retreat no surrender
Now on the street tonight the lights grow dim
The walls of my room are closing in
There's a war outside still raging
you say it ain't ours anymore to win
I want to sleep beneath peaceful skies in my lover's bed
with a wide open country in my eyes
and these romantic dreams in my head
Somebody That I Used To Knowの邦題が「失恋サムバディ」なのはまだいいとしても,凄腕の刺客のWe're Never Ever Getting Back Togetherが「私たちは絶対に絶対にヨリを戻したりしない」と聞いては「直訳にもほどがあるだろ!」
Lorde mentioned Lana Del Rey as one of her musical influences. I think it's probably the reason that Lana's Born To Die came to me when I first heard the haunting percussion in this song.
As she is only 16 years old, her lyrics give us an impression she's much older and mature. Some say in this song Lorde compares a high school classroom to the music industry. In their view the beauty queen represents a pop star in the industry. Could be. Tennis Court (Lorde)
Don't you think that it's boring how people talk
Making smart with their words again, well I'm bored
Because I'm doing this for the thrill of it, killin' it
Never not chasing a million things I want
And I am only as young as the minute is full of it
Getting pumped up from the little bright things I bought
But I know they'll never own me
(Yeah)
Baby be the class clown
I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form showing people how little we care (yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah)
Pretty soon I'll be getting on my first plane
I'll see the veins of my city like they do in space
But my head's filling up fast with the wicked games, up in flames
How can I fuck with the fun again, when I'm known
And my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving them
Everything's cool when we're all in line, for the throne
But I know it's not forever
(Yeah)
Baby be the class clown
I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form showing people how little we care (yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah)
It looked alright in the pictures (yeah)
Getting caught soft for the trip though, isn't it?
I fall apart with all my heart
And you can watch from your window
[laughs]
And you can watch from your window
Baby be the class clown
I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form showing people how little we care (yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah)
** And my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving themの箇所ですが,このtrip someone upというのは「(人に)悪さをする」という意味なので,ここは(有名になったら)周囲の人間があれこれ知恵を絞って足を引っ張ろうとするという意味だと考えました。
Some say it's an adapted from a Charles Bukowski poem in his Roominghouse Madrigals. The credit of the song tells Tom Waits as the writer. Since I don't know the poem, I'm not sure if the claim is true or not but I'm sure the lyrics are definitely a masterpiece.
The protagonist (probably a hooker) keeps telling 'Charlie' who is someone she trusts and probably loves that how happy and blessed she is, saying her 'husband' plays the trombone" and "works out at the track." A great twist awaits you in the last stanza. A sad yet beautiful song. Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis (Tom Waits)
(Neko Case Cover)
hey Charley I'm pregnant
and living on 9-th street
right above a dirty bookstore
off cuclid avenue
and I stopped taking dope
and I quit drinking whiskey
and my old man plays the trombone
and works out at the track.
and he says that he loves me
even though its not his baby
and he says that he'll raise him up
like he would his own son
and he gave me a ring
that was worn by his mother
and he takes me out dancin
every saturday nite.
and hey Charley I think about you
everytime I pass a fillin' station
on account of all the grease
you used to wear in your hair
and I still have that record
of little anthony & the imperials
but someone stole my record player
how do you like that?
hey Charley I almost went crazy
after mario got busted
so I went back to omaha to
live with my folks
but everyone I used to know
was either dead or in prison
so I came back in minneapolis
this time I think I'm gonna stay.
hey Charley I think I'm happy
for the first time since my accident
and I wish I had all the money
that we used to spend on dope
I'd buy me a used car lot
and I wouldn't sell any of em
I'd just drive a different car
every day dependin on how
I feel.
hey Charley
for chrissakes
do you want to know
the truth of it?
I don't have a husband
he don't play the trombone
and I need to borrow money
to pay this lawyer
and Charley, hey
I'll be eligible for parole
come valentines day.
(I don't have a husband)」と言っているのでその可能性もありません。
そしてこの曲の一番悲しいところは,これが「Christmas Card From A Hooker In Minneapolis」である点です。
(I'll be eligible for parole, come valentines day)」という最後の箇所は,Charlieに向けてプロポーズしているのではないかという説です。
http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2012/09/standing-in-dark-lawson.html
Reading the song title, I thought it's the protagonist who's brokenhearted but I was wrong. He WAS brokenhearted but now he seems to be fine. Actually, it's the second person who IS brokenhearted.
Anyway, I posted their Standing In The Dark last September in which it's the protagonist himself who was standing in the dark. http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2012/09/standing-in-dark-lawson.html
So this could be taken as a sequel to the song and I think that would make it more interesting. Brokenhearted (Lawson)
You're not the girl I used to know
How the hell did you get so cold?
I bet you kick yourself to know
Where I've been since you let me go (yeah)
Now you wanna be with me (yeah)
But you let your colours show
And it's a long way home (home)
Hey girl look at what you started
Played with love got you brokenhearted
I thought you were all I wanted
All good since the day we parted
Now table's turned,
Lessons learned,
You got burnt, yeah
Hey girl look at what you started
Played with love got you broke... brokenhearted
[2x]
La la la...
La la la...
La la la...
I was standing in the dark girl,
But now I'm in control
And we're a million miles apart
But tell me why you sold your soul
'Cause now you are the lonely one
Since you let your colours show
Baby it's a long way home (home)
Hey girl look at what you started
Played with love got you brokenhearted
I thought you were all I wanted (wanted)
All good since the day we parted
Now table's turned,
Lessons learned,
You got burnt, yeah.
Hey girl look at what you started
Played with love got you broke... brokenhearted
[2x]
La la la...
La la la...
La la la...
(Yeah)
(Hey, Lawson, what's up?)
(Yeah)
[B.o.B]
It's funny how the table's turned
I used to go for you but I was not your main concern
(So it burned) I had to let it burn
Expect the unexpected you never know what you learn
You never know what you do or what you'll get in return
See life is like a mission, you only get what you earn
But you would be in attention you really didn't deserve
But now we're feeling vicious
I kicked the bitch to the curb
And you have been booted
That's just how we do it
If I had a remote then you would be muted
But you made your choice and now you feeling foolish
But ask me how I feel
I don't give a mass of two shits (Ha!)
La la la
La la la
La la la
Hey girl look at what you started
Played with love got you brokenhearted
I thought you were all I wanted
All good since the day we parted
Now table's turned,
Lessons learned,
You got burnt, yeah.
Hey girl look at what you started
Played with love got you broke...brokenhearted
La la la...
La la la...
La la la...
Now you're living with a broken heart
Now you're living, now you're living, now you're living with a broken heart
Now you're living, now you're living, now you're living with a broken heart
Now you're living, now you're living
Played with love got you broke... brokenhearted
This song appeared out of blue on Top 100 lyrics list at Metrolyrics which I visit often. When a song in 70s, 80s or 90s such as this appears on the list, in most cases, it's featured in a TV show or a film. It hold true with this case. The song was featured in an episode of Breaking Bad, a popular TV show in the U.S.
I've never watched the show and don't know about it very much. People say it's played at a crucial moment of the episode. I won't go any further as I hate spoilers. Baby Blue (Badfinger)
Guess I got what I deserve
Kept you waiting there, too long my love
All that time, without a word
Didn't know you'd think, that I'd forget, or I'd regret
The special love I have for you
My baby blue
All the days became so long
Did you really think I'd do you wrong
Dixie, when I let you go
Thought you'd realize, I would know, I would show
The special love I have for you
My baby blue
What can I do, what can I say?
Except that I want you by my side
How can I show you? Show me a way
Don't you know, the times I tried
Guess that's all I have to say
Except the feeling just grows stronger everyday
Just one thing, before I go
Take good care, baby let me know, let it grow
The famous expression, "the survival of the fittest" describing natural selection is not technically correct. Actually, it's rather "an extinction of the least adapted" in an environment. Under the pressures of natural selection, a majority of organisms do survive and only the least adapted ones perish.
It occurred numerous times randomly in the course of evolution and through the process, 'the fittest' or "not the least adapted" survived. We humans are here not because we're the fittest but because we're not "the least adapted."
I'm not questioning if Eminem is universally acclaimed and recognized as one of the best rappers on the earth, of course. Thinking this way, however, he is the 'king' not because he has been the fittest in his environment (rap) from the beginning but because others have been not equally as fit as him. Survival (Eminem)
[Hook: Liz Rodrigues]
This is survival of the fittest
This is do or die
This is the winner takes it all
So take it all
[Verse 1]
Wasn't ready to be no millionaire, I was ill-prepared
I was prepared to be ill though, the skill was there
In the beginning, it wasn't 'bout the ends
It was 'bout busting raps and standing for something, fucking acronym
Cut the fucking act like you're happy, I'm fucking back again
With another anthem, why stop when it doesn't have to end?
It ain't over 'til I say it's over – enough when I say enough
Throw me to them wolves and close the gate up
I'm afraid of what'll happen to them wolves
When the thought of being thrown into an alligator pit, I salivated it
Weight is up, hands up like it's 12 noon, nah, homie
Hold them bitches straighter up, wave 'em 'til you dislocate a rotator cuff
Came up rough, came to ruffle feathers, nah, egos
I ain't deflate enough, last chance to make this whole stadium erupt cause
[Hook]
[Verse 2]
I can see the finish line with each line that I finish
I'm so close to my goals I can almost pole vault over the goal post
And if I don't got enough in the tank, maybe I can just siphon enough
To fill up this last can, man will I survive in this climate or what?
They said I was washed up, and kinda blood-bathed
I'm not a rapper, I'm an adapter, I can adjust
Plus I can just walk up to a mic and just bust
So floor's open if you'd like to discuss
Top 5 in this motherfucker and if I don't make the cut
What, like I give a fuck, I'mma light this bitch up like I'm driving a truck
To the side of a pump, 0 to 60 hop in and gun it
Like G-Unit without the hyphen, I'm hyping 'em up
And if there should ever come a time where my life's in a rut
And I look like I might just give up, eh you might've mistook
Me for bowing out I ain't taking a bow, I'm stabbing myself
With a fucking knife in the gut, while I'm wiping my butt!
Cause I just shitted on the mic, and I like getting cut
I get excited at the sight of my blood, you're in a fight with a nut
Cause I'mma fight 'til I die or win
Biting the dust it'll just make me angrier, wait
Let me remind you of what got me this far, picture me quitting
Now draw a circle around it and put a line through it, slut
It's survival of what?
[Hook]
[Verse 3]
So get your ideas, stack your ammo
But don't come unless you come to battle, I'm mad now jump in the saddle
This is it, it's what you eat, sleep, piss and shit
Live, breathe, your whole existence just consists of this
Refuse to quit, fuse is lit, can't diffuse the wick
I don't do this music shit, I lose my shit
Ain't got shit to lose, it's the moment of truth
It's all I know how to do, as soon as I get thrown in the booth, I spit
But my respect is overdue, I'm showing you the flow no one do
Cause I don't own no diploma for school, I quit!
So there's nothing for me to fall back on, I know no other trades
So you'd better trade your fucking mics in for some tool-box-es
Cause you'll never take my pride from me
It'll have to be pried from me, so pull out your pliers and your screwdrivers
But I want you to doubt me, I don't want you to believe
Cause this is something that I must use to succeed
And if you don't like me then fuck you!
Self esteem must be fucking shooting through-the-roof cause trust me
My skin is too thick and bullet proof to touch me
I can see why the fuck I disgust you
I must be allergic to failure cause every time I come close to it
I just sneeze, but I just go atchoo then achieve!
This song is featured in an episode of my favorite TV show TOP GEAR. I vaguely recognized the tune but I didn't know who's singing it, not to mention what the song's about.
As for the lyrics, some say it's inspired by the relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff in a novel, "Wuthering Heights.'' While they shared an intense, passionate love for each other, their relationship was also toxic and destructive.
Anyway, what the hell are these ninjas (are they ninja, aren't they?) in the video? Total Eclipse of The Heart (Bonnie Tyler)
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I get a little bit lonely
And you're never coming round
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I get a little bit tired
Of listening to the sound of my tears
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I get a little bit nervous
That the best of all the years have gone by
(Turn around)
Every now and then I get a little bit terrified
And then I see the look in your eyes
(Turn Around, bright eyes)
Every now and then I fall apart
(Turn Around, bright eyes)
Every now and then
I fall apart
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I get a little bit restless
And I dream of something wild
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I get a little bit helpless
And I'm lying like a child in your arms
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I get a little bit angry
And I know I've got to get out and cry
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I get a little bit terrified
But then I see the look in your eyes
(Turn Around, bright eyes)
Every now and then
I fall apart
Turn around, bright eyes
Every now and then
I fall apart
And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
'Cause we'll never be wrong
Together we can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time
(All of the time)
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
(Forever's gonna start tonight)
Once upon a time
I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I know you'll never be the boy
You always wanted to be
(Turn around)
But every now and then
I know you'll always be the only boy
Who wanted me the way that I am
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I know there's no one in the universe
As magical and wondrous as you
(Turn around)
Every now and then
I know there's nothing any better
There's nothing that I just wouldn't do
(Turn Around, bright eyes)
Every now and then I fall apart
(Turn Around, bright eyes)
Every now and then I fall apart
And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
'Cause we'll never be wrong
Together we can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time
(All of the time)
I don't know what to do
I'm always in the dark
Living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
(Forever's gonna start tonight)
Once upon a time I was
I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart
例えば,Ed SheeranのThe A Teamの歌詞にはAnd SHE don't want to go outside tonightという箇所と,And WE don't want to go outside tonightという箇所があり,代名詞だけが'she'から'we'に変わっています。 http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2011/11/a-team-ed-sheeran.html
Some song lyrics have slightly altered lines. For example, Ed Sheeran's The A Team has a line, "And she don't want to go outside tonight" and a line, "And we don't want to go outside tonight." The pronoun changes from 'she' to 'we.' http://oyogetaiyakukun.blogspot.jp/2011/11/a-team-ed-sheeran.html
Like it, the pronoun changes from 'you' to 'we' at the end of this song. As for this, Joy Williams said when she penned this song with John Paul White, they decided to do so because they wanted to represent that we all experience loneliness in our lives. Dust To Dust (The Civil Wars)
It's not your eyes
It's not what you say
It's not your laughter
That gives you away
You're just lonely
You've been lonely, too long
Oh, you're acting your thin disguise
All your perfectly delivered lines
They don't fool me
You've been lonely, too long
Let me in the wall
You've built around
We can light a match
And burn it down
Let me hold your hand
And dance 'round and 'round the flames
In front of us
Dust to dust
You've held your head up
You've fought the fight
You bear the scars
You've done your time
Listen to me
You've been lonely, too long
Let me in the walls
You've built around
We can light a match
And burn them down
Let me hold your hand
And dance 'round and 'round the flames
In front of us
Dust to dust
You're like a mirror, reflecting me
Takes one to know one, so take it from me
You've been lonely
You've been lonely, too long
We've been lonely
We've been lonely, too long
Is there anyone in Japan who doesn't know this song? Well, I don't think so. Spare for some, I believe almost every Japanese recognizes it the instance they hear it.
This is definitely a classic and I believe there're a bunch of Japanese translations out there already. Maybe I should post something else, such as songs I find very good but be underrated. Still I love it and it's the song that I want to translate. So here we go. Yesterday (The Beatles)
Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me.
Oh, yesterday came suddenly
Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday
Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday
Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday
Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday

(Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say)」の箇所。
Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away(昨日は自分の悩みは遥か遠くにあるように思えた)
Now it looks as though they're here to stay(だけど今はまるでここにずっとあるように見える)
Oh, I believe in yesterday(ああ,昨日というものを信じている)
Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be(突然,昔の自分の半分にも満たない人間になった)
There's a shadow hanging over me.(自分には消えずにかかっている陰がある)
Oh, yesterday came suddenly(ああ,昨日は突然やってきた)
Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say(どうして彼女は行かなければならなかったのか,わからない,彼女はどうしても言おうとしなかった)
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday(何か間違ったことを言った,今は昨日が恋しい)
Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play(昨日,恋愛は簡単にできるゲームだった)
Now I need a place to hide away(だけど今は隠れる場所が必要だ)
Oh, I believe in yesterday(ああ,昨日というものを信じている)
Why she had to go I don't know she wouldn't say(どうして彼女は行かなければならなかったのか,わからない,彼女はどうしても言おうとしなかった)
I said something wrong, now I long for yesterday(何か間違ったことを言った,今は昨日が恋しい)
Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play(昨日,恋愛は簡単にできるゲームだった)
Now I need a place to hide away(だけど今は隠れる場所が必要だ)
Oh, I believe in yesterday(ああ,昨日というものを信じている)
