I have heard that every one of us has a special music running deep inside our soul and whatever music we love in our lives has something in common with it. I always translate English lyrics into Japanese, wondering what my music sounds like.
Please let me make it clear. I prefer sports judged by some quantitative way, like 100 meters dash or speed skating. So I'm not a big fan of figure skating and never have been. Those who love figure skating would recognize it instantly because it's used for the performance of a well known Japanese male athlete. I'm Kissing You (Des'ree)
Pride can stand a thousand trials,
The strong will never fall,
But watching stars without you,
My soul cried.
Heaving heart is full of pain,
oh, oh, the aching.
'Cause I'm kissing you, oh.
I'm kissing you, oh.
Touch me deep, pure and true,
Gift to me forever
'Cause I'm kissing you, oh.
I'm kissing you, oh.
Where are you now?
Where are you now?
'Cause I'm kissing you.
I'm kissing you, oh.
I love this song. The moment I heard it for the first time, I was completely engrossed in it. It''s said the song title 'Bumblebee', a bug represents their fans. As Pizzorno explained to NME, their relationship with their fans is similar to ours with bumblebees. He said, "Humans can't exist without bumblebees, and the song's about the fans and about us joining together and reaching a higher state with them - our fans are our bumblebees. Without them we're f---ed. without their pollinating flowers, we're done." Bumblebee (Kasabian)
Get him a message, a message from me
I'm caught up in love and I'm in ecstasy
What can I do now, when nothing's the same?
And all that i know, I wanna do it again
(well tell me now)
Life is so simple when you are with me
'Cause when we're together, I'm in ecstasy
I'm in ecstasy
I'm in ecstasy
I'm in ecstasy
(Everybody go!)
All you pretty things, get on board this mothership
(i said)
All you got to do is be ready for action, baby
Don't think I'm twisted, as a matter of fact
Welcome you now to the second act
Where I fight off robots, and the men in the suits
Wear off the soles of your monkey boots
(well tell me now)
Can't get enough of the sunshine
Can't get enough of the moonlight
And all the colours that are coming on strong
Trying to hold on
Trying to hold on
Can't get enough of the oceans
Can't get enough of the mantra
All we will ever feel is ecstasy
We're in ecstasy
We're in ecstasy
We're in ecstasy
(Everybody go!)
All you pretty things, get on board this mothership
(i said)
All you got to be is ready for action, baby
Can't get enough of the sunshine
Can't get enough of the moonlight
And all the colours that are coming on strong
Trying to hold on
Trying to hold on
Can't get enough of the oceans
Can't get enough of the mantra
All we will ever feel is ecstasy
We're in ecstasy
We're in ecstasy
We're in ecstasy
(Everybody go!)
All you pretty things, get on board this mothership
(i said)
All you've got to be is ready for action, baby
Ready for action, baby
Ready for action, baby
Discrepancy isn't always a bad thing, especially in this song. Although it sounds like prewar swing or boggie-woggie, represented by The Andrews Sisters, what the protagonist is actually talking about is Twitter which emerged pretty recently in 2006. The discrepancy between them makes the song stand out from other similar songs. Almost everything said in the lyrics is true. I think we should learn this song before we start joining a SNS like Twitter. Pack Up (Eliza Doolittle)
I get tired
And upset
And i’m trying to care a little less
When I google I only get depressed
I wast taught to dodge those issues I was told
Don’t worry
There’s no doubt
There’s always something to cry about
When you’re stuck in an angry crowd
They don’t think what they say before they open their mouths
[chorus]
Pack up your troubles in you old kit bag
And bury them beneath the sea
I don’t care what the people may say
What the people may say about me
Pack up your troubles get your old grin back
Don’t worry ’bout the cavalry
I don’t care what the whisperers say
Cos’ they whisper too loud for me.
Hot topic
Maybe I should drop it
It’s a touchy subject
And I like to tiptoe round the tiff (though it's "shit" in her official video) goin’ down
You got penny, but no pound
Your business is running out
‘not my business to talk about
They don’t think what they say before they open their mouths.
[chorus]
Pack up your troubles in you old kit bag
And bury them beneath the sea
I don’t care what the people may say
What the people may say about me
Pack up your troubles get your old grin back
Don’t worry ’bout the cavalry
I don’t care what the whisperers say
Cos’ they whisper too loud for me.

let's count from one to infinity
don't rock the boat, got to let it be, got to let it go, oh oh oh"

それはともかく,この曲のコーラス(サビ)に登場する「Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag」という部分は,第二次世界大戦以前に George Henry PowellとFelix Powellというウェールズ出身の兄弟が作った行進曲,Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag, and Smile, Smile, Smileから取っているとか。
I don't know why I recognized her name when I found her name on Metrolyrics Top 100. Did anyone mention her? I don't know. According to Wikipedia, "Rebbeca Marie Gomez better known by her stage name Becky G, is an American singer, rapper, and dancer from Inglewood, California." She looks very young and actually she is. She's only 17 years old. Shower (Becky G)
I don't know, it's just something about ya
Got me feeling like I can't be without ya
Anytime someone mention your name
I be feeling as if I'm around ya
Ain't no words to describe you baby
All I know is that you take me high
Can you tell that you drive me crazy?
Cause I can't get you out my mind
Thinkin of ya when I'm goin to bed
When I wake up think of ya again
You are my homie, lover and friend
Exactly why
You light me up inside
Like the 4th of July
Whenever your around
I always seem to smile
And people ask me how
Well your the reason why
I'm dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower
Ladade ladada ladada
Singing in the shower
Ladade ladada ladada
Singing in the shower
All I want, all I need is your lovin
Baby you make me hot like an oven
Since you came you know what I've discovered
Baby I don't need me another
Know, know all I know (know)
Only you got me feelin so (so)
And you know that I have to have ya
And I don't plan to let you go
Thinkin of ya when I'm goin to bed
When I wake up think of ya again
You are my homie, lover and friend
Exactly why
You light me up inside

And when the times get rough
There ain't no given up
Cause it just feels so right

Don't care what others say
If I got you I'm straight
You bring my heart to life yeah

You got me singing in the shower
Ladade ladada ladada
Singing in the shower
Ladade ladada ladada
Despite their recognition and fame, I didn't know any of their songs before I came across this the other day. Considering the fact that they're inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012, it's a bit surprising (and embarrassing at the same time). That clearly shows that I'm not a music person in any sense. I love the second verse, starting with "Now and then when I see her face" and ends with "I'd probably break down and cry." I personally think SHE in the lyrics represents someone in a picture or video. Like a friend in our yearbook. Sweet Child Of Mine (Guns N' Roses)
She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stared too long
I'd probably break down and cry
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I'd hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder and the rain
To quietly pass me by
[3x]
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
[4x]
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Sweet child o' mine
People say "You never know what you have until you lose it," Sometimes it's family, friends, money, love or all of them. The quote doesn't end here and goes on like this, "and once you lose it, you can never get it back."
Is it true? I don't think so. It's true that you can never get back your family, friends or youth once they're actually 'gone'. Otherwise, it's against the laws of physics, or laws of the universe. Still I believe it's not impossible to get back what you've lost if you try really hard. Maybe I'm too optimistic but I'm proud of being so. True Love (Coldplay)
For a second, I was in control
I had it once, I lost it though
And all along the fire below would rise
And I wish you could have let me know
What's really going on below
I've lost you now, you let met go but one last time
Tell me you love me, if you don't then lie, oh lie to me
Remember once upon a time, when I was yours and you were blind
The fire would sparkle in your eyes and mine
So tell me you love me, if you don't then lie, oh lie to me
Just tell me you love, if you don't then lie, oh lie to me
If you don't then lie, oh lie to me
And call it true, call it true love
Call it true, call it true love
This tune sounds so '80s to me and in fact was released in 1988. I didn't know the song but it was used at the end of a movie "Napoleon Dynamite" depicting the life of a nerdy guy who couldn't live up to his name, 'Napoleon Dynamite'. Considering I enjoyed the movie pretty much, I should have recognized the song but I didn't. Maybe I was too focused on the movie itself.
Anyway, one thing has been on my mind since I learned who wrote (and sang) the song. Did they do as Romans did? The Promise (When I Rome)
If you need a friend
Don't look to a stranger
You know in the end, I'll always be there
But when you're in doubt
And when you're in danger
Take a look all around, and I'll be there
I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be
But if you'll wait around awhile, I'll make you fall for me
I promise
I promise you I will
When your day is through
And so is your temper
You know what to do
I'm gonna always be there
Sometimes if I shout
It's not what's intended
These words just come out
With no gripe to bear
I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be
But if you'll wait around awhile, I'll make you fall for me
I promise
I promise you
I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be
And if I had to walk the world, I'd make you fall for me
I promise you
I promise you I will
I gotta tell you
I gotta tell you
I need to tell you
I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be
But if you'll wait around awhile, I'll make you fall for me
I promise you
I promise you
I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be
And if I had to walk the world, I'd make you fall for me
I promise you
I promise you I will
I will
I will
The first thing that came to me when I was watching the music video below was the music video of Foo Figheter's Learn To Fly in which Dave Grohl portrayed various characters including a kid and a cabin attendant. Although the brokenhearted protagonist found a new love and the story ended happily in this video, I'm telling you it'll never happen to us. I said NEVER! If we get on a plane brokenhearted, we'd come down from it still brokenhearted. Drunk On The Plane (Dierks Bentley)
I took two weeks vacation for the honeymoon
A couple tickets all inclusive down in Cancun
I couldn't get my money back so I'm in seat 7A
I'm getting drunk on a plane
I bet the fella on the aisle thought I was crazy
'Cause I taped your picture to the seatback right beside me
Now I've got empty mini bottles fillin' both our trays
I'm getting drunk on a plane
Buyin' drinks for everybody
But the pilot, it's a party
Got this 737 rocking like a G6
Stewardess is somethin' sexy
Leanin' pourin' Coke and whiskey
Told her about my condition
Got a little mile-high flight attention
It's Mardi Gras up in the clouds
I'm up so high, I may never come down
I'll try anything to drown out the pain
They all know why I'm getting drunk on a plane
We had this date marked on the calendar forever
We'd take that new wed limo airport ride together
I feel like a plastic groom alone there at the top of the cake
So hey, I'm getting drunk on a plane
Buyin' drinks for everybody
But the pilot, it's a party
Got this 737 rocking like a G6
Stewardess is somethin' sexy
Leanin' pourin' Coke and whiskey
Told her about my condition
Got a little mile-high flight attention
It's Mardi Gras up in the clouds
I'm up so high, I may never come down
I'll try anything to drown out the pain
They all know why I'm getting drunk on a plane
On my way home I'll bump this seat right up to first class
So I can drink that cheap champagne out of a real glass
And when we land I'll call her up and tell her kiss my ass
'Cause hey, I'm drunk on a plane
Buyin' drinks for everybody
But the pilot, it's a party
Got this 737 rocking like a G6
Stewardess is somethin' sexy
Leanin' pourin' Coke and whiskey
Told her about my condition
Got a little mile-high flight attention
It's Mardi Gras up in the clouds
I'm up so high, I may never come down
I'll try anything to drown out the pain
They all know why I'm getting drunk on a plane
I'm getting drunk on a plane
I might be passed out
In the baggage claim
But right now
I'm drunk on a plane
When it comes to song meanings, it's not uncommon that people have their own interpretation and disagree with others. That's often the case with artists like Linkin Park and OneRepublic. As for this song, however, people almost unanimously agree that it's about sex and just employing a tons of metaphors to make it radio and MTV friendly. Pour Some Sugar On Me (Def Leppard)
Step inside, walk this way
You and me babe, Hey, hey!
Love is like a bomb, baby, c'mon get it on
Livin' like a lover with a radar phone
Lookin' like a tramp, like a video vamp
Demolition woman, can I be your man?
Razzle 'n' a dazzle 'n' a flash a little light
Television lover, baby, go all night
Sometime, anytime, sugar me sweet
Little miss ah innocent sugar me, yeah
Hey!
C'mon, take a bottle, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up
Pour some sugar on me
Ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C'mon, fire me up
Pour your sugar on me
Oh, I can't get enough
I'm hot, sticky sweet
From my head to my feet, yeah
Listen! red light, yellow light, green-a-light go!
Crazy little woman in a one man show
Mirror queen, mannequin, rhythm of love
Sweet dream, saccharine, loosen up
You gotta squeeze a little, squeeze a little
Tease a little more
Easy operator come a knockin' on my door
Sometime, anytime, sugar me sweet
Little miss innocent sugar me, yeah, yeah
Give a little more
Take a bottle, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up
Pour some sugar on me
Ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C'mon fire me up
Pour your sugar on me
Oh, I can't get enough
I'm hot, sticky sweet
From my head to my feet yeah
[guitar solo]
You got the peaches, I got the cream
Sweet to taste, saccharine
Cause I'm hot, say what, sticky sweet
From my head, my head, to my feet
Do you take sugar? one lump or two?
Take a bottle, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up
Pour some sugar on me
Ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C'mon fire me up
Pour your sugar on me
Oh, I can't get enough
Pour some sugar on me
Oh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
Get it, come get it
Pour your sugar on me
Ooh
Pour some sugar on me
Yeah! Sugar me!
They're from Norway. It's not very common that a song written by a Norwegian singer (a Norwegian duo in this case) ranks on the charts worldwide. This song is so catchy that I was completely hooked when I heard it for the first time. The lyrics are upbeat and uplifting. "Do whatever you believe right no matter what people around you say" is the message. Am I Wrong (Nico & Vinz)
Am I wrong
For thinking out the box from where I stay?
Am I wrong
For saying that I choose another way?
I ain't trying to do what everybody else doin'
Just 'cause everybody doin' what they all do
If one thing I know, I'll fall but I'll grow
I'm walking down this road of mine, this road that I call home
So am I wrong?
For thinking that we could be something for real?
Now am I wrong?
For trying to reach the things that I can't see?
But that's just how I feel,
That's just how I feel
That's just how I feel
Trying to reach the things that I can't see (see, see, see)
Am I tripping
For having a vision?
My prediction
I'ma be on the top of the world
Walk your walk and don't look back,
Always do what you decide
Don't let them control your life, that's just how I feel oh whoa
Fight for yours and don't let go,
Don't let them compare you, no
Don't worry, you're not alone, that's just how we feel
Am I wrong? (am I wrong?)
For thinking that we could be something for real?
(Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah, oh)
Now am I wrong? (am I wrong?)
For trying to reach the things that I can't see?
(Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah)
That's just how I feel,
But that's just how I feel
That's just how I feel
Trying to reach the things that I can't see (see, see, see)
If you tell me I'm wrong, wrong
I don't wanna be right, right
If you tell me I'm wrong, wrong
I don't wanna be right
If you tell me I'm wrong, wrong
I don't wanna be right, right
If you tell me I'm wrong, wrong
I don't wanna be right
Am I wrong?
For thinking that we could be something for real?
Now am I wrong?
For trying to reach the things that I can't see?
But that's just how I feel,
But that's just how I feel
That's just how I feel
Trying to reach the things that I can't see (see, see, see)
So am I wrong? (am I wrong?)
For thinking that we could be something for real?
(Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah, oh)
Now am I wrong? (am I wrong?)
For trying to reach the things that I can't see?
(Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah)
But that's just how I feel,
That's just how I feel
But that's just how I feel
Trying to reach the things that I can't see (see, see, see)
The original version was released in 2009 in UK. This is the official remix version with Ludacris who is also featured in Justin Bieber's "Baby." In the lyrics, the protagonist warns the second person he's a heart breaker and going to hurt her. Do you think it works for her? I'm doubtful. The more we're told not to do something, the more enticing and inviting it gets. Just like a 'red button'. We all know we shouldn't push it, but sometimes it gets very hard to resist doing it. Break Your Heart (Taio Cruz ft. Ludacris)
[Verse 1 - Ludacris]
Luda! Now I may not be the worst or the best but you gotta respect my honesty
And I may break your heart but I don't really think there's anybody as bomb as me
So you can take this chance in the end, everybody's gonna be wonderin how you deal
You might say this is Ludacris but Taio Cruz tell her how you feel
[Verse 2 - Taio Cruz]
Now listen to me baby
Before I love and leave ya
They call me heartbreaker
I don't wanna deceive ya
[Break - Taio Cruz]
If you fall for me
I'm not easy to please
I might tear you apart
Told you from the start, baby from the start
[Hook - Taio Cruz] - 4X
I'm only gonna break, break ya, break, break ya heart
[Verse 3 - Taio Cruz]
There's not point tryin to hide it
No point tryin to evade it
I know I got a problem
By doin this behavin
[Break]
[Hook]
[Verse 4 - Ludacris]
Thats all I'm gonna do woman
Listen, now I'm only gonna break yo heart
And shatter and splatter it all into little bitty pieces
Whether or not you get it all together
Then it's finders keepers and losers weepers
See I'm not tryin to lead you on, no I'm only tryin to keep it real
You might say this is Ludacris but Taio Cruz tell her how you feel
[Verse 5 - Taio Cruz]
Hey and I know karma's gonna get me back for bein so cold
Hey, like a big bad wolf, I'm born to be bad and bad to the bone
Hey, if you fall for me, I'm only gonna tear you apart
Hey, told ya from the start, hey
I think I got the message. "Love yourself as you are right now." I hate so called 'skinny craze' that prevails in our society, like "the thinner, the better" and find it nothing but nonsense. I feel sorry for people who have been laughed at and bullied at school or at workI just because they're overweight or obese. I don't think, however, they have to say something bad about other people who are not like them to prove themselves right. All About That Base (Meghan Trainor)
Because you know I'm all about that bass,
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass
Yeah it's pretty clear, I ain't no size two
But I can shake it, shake it like I'm supposed to do
'Cause I got that boom boom that all the boys chase
All the right junk in all the right places
I see the magazines working that Photoshop
We know that shit ain't real
Come on now, make it stop
If you got beauty beauty just raise 'em up
'Cause every inch of you is perfect
From the bottom to the top
Yeah, my momma she told me don't worry about your size
She says, boys they like a little more booty to hold at night
You know I won't be no stick-figure, silicone Barbie doll,
So, if that's what's you're into
Then go ahead and move along
Because you know I'm all about that bass,
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass
I'm bringing booty back
Go ahead and tell them skinny bitches hey
No, I'm just playing I know you think you're fat,
But I'm here to tell you,
Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top
Yeah, my momma she told me don't worry about your size
She says, boys they like a little more booty to hold at night
You know I won't be no stick-figure, silicone Barbie doll
So, if that's what's you're into
Then go ahead and move along
Because you know I'm all about that bass,
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass
Because you know I'm all about that bass,
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass
Because you know I'm all about that bass,
'Bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all 'bout that bass, 'bout that bass
The word, 'Sunday' is usually associated with something fun and exciting but it's not in this song. The song depicts a dull and boring holidays which are spent at a seaside resort town. Wikipeda says, the song was inspired after the artist visited the Welsh sea-side resort of Borth.
As for 'the strange ash' appearing in the lyrics, one says it's nuclear fallout which is hinted in the preceding lines like "That they forgot to bomb, Come, come, come, nuclear bomb". Well, that makes sense. Everyday Is Like Sunday (Morrissey)
Trudging slowly over wet sand
Back to the bench where your clothes were stolen
This is the coastal town
That they forgot to close down
Armageddon, come Armageddon!
Come, Armageddon! Come!
Everyday is like Sunday
Everyday is silent and grey
Hide on the promenade
Etch a postcard :
"How I Dearly Wish I Was Not Here"
In the seaside town
That they forgot to bomb
Come, come, come, nuclear bomb
Everyday is like Sunday
Everyday is silent and grey
Trudging back over pebbles and sand
And a strange dust lands on your hands
(And on your face)
(On your face)
(On your face)
(On your face)
Everyday is like Sunday
"Win yourself a cheap tray"
Share some greased tea with me
Everyday is silent and grey
It sounds like a breakup song. As you see in the first verse, the protagonist in the lyrics was meant to be together with the second person and and actually she was. Later she started realizing the second person was not very good for her, being with him would end up causing much troubles to her. Break Free (Ariana Grande ft. Zedd)
[Verse 1]
If you want it, take it
I should have said it before
Tried to hide it, fake it
I can't pretend anymore
[Pre-Chorus]
I only want to die alive
Never by the hands of a broken heart
I don't wanna hear you lie tonight
Now that I've become who I really are
[Chorus x2]
This is the part when I say I don’t want ya
I'm stronger than I've been before
This is the part when I break free
Cause I can't resist it no more
[Verse 2]
You were better, deeper
I was under your spell
Like a deadly fear I am, babe
On the highway to hell
[Pre-Chorus] + [Chorus x2]
[Bridge]
(No more, baby, oooh)
Thought of your body, I came alive
It was lethal, it was fatal
In my dreams it felt so right
But I woke up every time
Oh baby
The other day the distinctive guitar riff of this song made a sudden come back to me. First I though it'd fade soon but it's stuck in my head long enough to make me explore the lyrics. Some say the lyrics and music video are closely associated with Franz Kafka's novel, 'The Trial' in which the protagonist is unlawfully taken away on his way to work and tried to be sentenced to the death penalty.
(Warning: the music video contains some creepy scenes. I recommend you not watch but if you do, do it with your own responsibility.) Owner Of A Lonely Heart (Yes)
(audio)
Move yourself
You always live your life
Never thinking of the future
Prove yourself
You are the move you make
Take your chances win or loser
See yourself
You are the steps you take
You and you, and that's the only way
Shake, shake yourself
You're every move you make
So the story goes
Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Say - you don't want to chance it
You've been hurt so before
Watch it now
The eagle in the sky
How he dancin' one and only
You, lose yourself
No not for pity's sake
There's no real reason to be lonely
Be yourself
Give your free will a chance
You've got to want to succeed
Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
After my own indecision
They confused me so
Owner of a lonely heart
My love said never question your will at all
In the end you've got to go
Look before you leap
Owner of a lonely heart
And don't you hesitate at all - no no
Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Sooner or later each conclusion
Will decide the lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
It will excite it will delight
It will give a better start
Owner of a lonely heart
Don't deceive your free will at all
Don't deceive your free will at all
Owner of a lonely heart
Don't deceive your free will at all
Just receive it
The title reminds me of Steve Jobs somehow. More precisely, the word, 'shack' is associated with something like a starting point, which reminds me of their garage where Stephen Wozniak built the first Apple. The lyrics also remind me of them. Although they started Apple together with a financial aid of Mike Markkula, later two Steves started growing apart to lead Wozniak leaving the company. Ironically what made them apart was their business success. While Wozniak was doing their business for a fun, Job wasn't. He took it more seriously and focused on boosting their business even further. I know it's a hindsight and I'm not sure if it's good or not but if they had been "back to the shack" then, it might have been a bit different now. Back To The Shack (Weezer)
[Verse 1]
Sorry guys I didn't realize that I needed you so much
I thought I'd get a new audience, I forgot that disco sucks
I ended up with nobody and I started feeling dumb
Maybe I should play the lead guitar and Pat should play the drums
[Chorus]
Take me back, back to the shack
Back to the strat with the lightning strap
Kick in the door, more hardcore
Rockin out like it's '94
Let's turn up the radio
Let's turn off those stupid singing shows
I know where we need to go:
Back to the shack
[Verse 2]
I finally settled down with my girl and I made up with my dad
I had to go and make a few mistakes so I could find out who I am
I'm letting all of these feelings out even if it means I fail
Cause this is what I was meant to do and you can't put that on sale
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
We belong in the rock world
There is so much left to do
If we die in obscurity, oh well
At least we raised some hell
「You'd be so nice to come home to me....」。実際には「You'd be so nice to come home to」が正しい歌詞なのですが,そこはあまり問題ではありません。
The other day the song started playing in my head out of the blue. It went like this, "You'd be so nice to come home to me...." Although the correct lyrics are "You'd be so nice to come home to," that's not the point I'm trying to make. What brought me to post this song was an auxiliary verb, 'would or 'd'. It was not until then that I realized the second person wasn't actually with the narrator in the song. That made me wonder what kind of situation they're in. You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To (Dinah Shore/Frank Sinatra/Nina Simone/Ella Fitzgerald/Chet Baker)
You'd be so nice to come home to
You'd be so nice by the fire
While that breeze on night sings a lullaby
You'd be all my heart could desire
Under the stars chilled by the winter
Under an August moon shining above
You'd be so nice, you'd be paradise
To come home to and love
It reminds me of her Video Games. The narrator is trying to convince herself that the second person loves her back despite knowing it's not true. The music video was shot in Los Angeles, California in May 2014. In contrast with the beautiful and sunny landscape of The Golden State, the singer in the video doesn't seem to be very happy.
As for the song, she told The Sun that the song was inspired by a person she met. The person made a strong visual impact on her, she said. Shades of Cool (Lana Del Rey)
My baby lives in shades of blue
Blue eyes and jazz and attitude
He lives in California too
He drives a Chevy Malibu
And when he calls, he calls for me, and not for you
He lives for love, he loves his drugs, he loves his baby too
But I can't fix him, can't make him better
And I can't do nothing about this strange weather
But you're invincible *
I can't break through your world
'Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
My baby lives in shades of cool
Cool heart and hands and aptitude
He lives for love, for women too
I'm one of many, one is blue
And when he calls, he calls for me, and not for you
He prays for love, he prays for peace, and maybe someone new
But I can't help him, can't make him better
And I can't do nothing about his strange weather
Cause you are invincible
I can't break through your world
Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
Cause you are invincible
I can't break through your world
Cause you live in shades of cool
Your heart is unbreakable
You all know this song, don't you? The impressive and memorable guitar riff will be stuck in your head once you hear it. Well it was when I heard it.
According to co-writer of the song Jim Peterik, they're going to call the song 'Survival' because it was a rhyme with the word 'rival' in the lyrics. The hook was so strong, however, they ditched the idea and decided to adopt the phrase 'Eye of the Tiger' in the hook. Eye Of The Tiger (Survivor)
Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance
Now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times, it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive
[Chorus]
It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge
Of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the
Eye of the tiger
Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds
'Till we take to the street
For the kill with the skill to survive
[Chorus]
Risin' up straight to the top
Had the guts, got the glory
Went the distance
Now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive
[Chorus]
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)だったそうですが,この2曲は私も好きな曲なので,この曲も取り上げるべきでしょう。
According to Songfacts.com, this (song) won BBC Radio 1's A List Vote and closely followed by Bastilles's "Pompeii" at #2 and Fall Out Boy's "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)" at #3." These two songs are my favorites. So I think I should post this.
At first I thought the song title, 'Chocolate' literally meant real one and was very confused. Later I learned it's a slang for a certain type of hash. Being an good citizen isn't always good, especially in understanding songs like this. Chocolate (The 1975)
Call it a split cause you know that you will
You bite your friends like like chocolate
You say, we go where nobody knows
Got guns hidden under our petticoats
No we're never gunna' quit it
No we're never gunna' quit it, no
Now we run run away from the boys in the blue
And my car smells like chocolate
Hey now think about what to do
Think about what to say, I think about how to think
Pause it, play it, pause it play it, pause it
[Chorus]
Oh we go where nobody knows
With guns hidden under our petticoats
No we're never gunna' quit it
No we're never gunna' quit it, no
Yeah we're dressed in black from head to toe
We've got guns hidden under our petticoats
No we're never gunna' quit it. no we're never gunna' quit it no
Now you're never gunna' quit it
Now you're never gunna' quit it
Now you're never gunna' quit it
If you don't stop smoking it
That's what she said
She said we're dressed in black, head to toe
With guns hidden under our petticoats
No we're never gunna' quit it
No we're never gunna' quit it, no
[Verse 2]
Hey now we're building up speed as we're approaching the hill
Oh my hair smells like chocolate
Hey now you say you're gunna' quit it
But you're never gunna' quit it
Go get it, go get it
Got get it, go get it, go!
And play it cool
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
Well I think we better go, seriously better go
Said the feds are here you know
Seriously better go
Oh oh, well I think we better go
Said the feds are here you know
Said Rebecca better know
Seriously better go
You say, we go where nobody knows
Got guns hidden under our petticoats
No we're never gunna' quit it
No we're never gunna' quit it, no
Rockgenius.com is a subdivision of my favorite website, GENIUS.com which was initially called RapGenius.com where I've learned a lot about the rap and hiphop culture. The other day, the website recommended this song to me as well as some of Lana Del Rey's songs. Although I didn't know anything about the band, Disclosure, I followed their recommendation. Latch (Disclosure ft. Sam Smith)
You lift my heart up when the rest of me is down
You, you enchant me even when you're not around
If there are boundaries, I will try to knock them down
I’m latching on, babe, now I know what I have found
[Bridge]
I feel we're close enough
I wanna lock in your love
I think we're close enough
Could I lock in your love, baby?
[Chorus]
Now I've got you in my space
I won't let go of you
Got you shackled in my embrace
I'm latching on to you
[Verse 2]
I'm so enraptured, got me wrapped up in your touch
Feel so enamored, hold me tight within your clutch
How do you do it, you got me losing every breath
What did you give me to make my heart bleed out my chest?
[Bridge x2]
[Chorus x2]
[Outro]
I'm latching on to you
I won't let go of you
I'm latching on to you
I won't let go of you
I won't let go, I won't let go
I won't let go, I won't let go
